An extraordinary one-of-a-kind sculptural armchair created in 1992 by dutch artist joop evers in collaboration with frans bolscher. This remarkable piece combines expressive craftsmanship with an almost organic, surrealist design, blurring the boundaries between functional furniture and sculpture.
the chair takes its inspiration from the ginkgo biloba, also known as the japanese maidenhair tree, an ancient tree species associated with longevity, resilience and endurance. Its distinctive organic shapes are reflected in the chair’s flowing construction, elongated legs and beautifully sculpted details.
the solid wood has been carefully shaped and treated using a flame-burning technique, followed by chalk paint, creating a fascinating interplay of darkened surfaces, lighter tones and visible wood grain. The beautifully aged finish gives the chair a unique texture and an exceptional natural patina.
a true unica and statement piece, this chair is a remarkable example of artistic furniture making, combining imagination, craftsmanship and sculptural expression.
about the artists
frans bolscher was a dutch artist and designer known for his imaginative and unconventional approach to sculptural furniture. While bolscher developed the artistic concepts, he relied on his talented pupil joop evers for the technical execution and woodworking machinery.
evers possessed the craftsmanship and technical skills needed to translate bolscher’s creative ideas into three-dimensional objects. Their collaboration resulted in highly individual pieces in which artistic vision and traditional woodworking techniques came together.
condition
very good condition, with minimal signs of wear consistent with age and use. The wood displays a beautiful natural patina, enhanced by the original flame-treated and chalk-painted finish.
