The set includes three ceramic objects: two perforated “Mushroom”-style vases by Erik Græser and a separate, enclosed sound object of unknown authorship.
Græser’s works combine the utilitarian function of ceramics with a sculptural approach to form, and his stoneware vases with their mushroom-like silhouettes are among the most recognizable examples of Danish studio ceramics from the 1960s.
The two vases have compact, flattened, almost spherical bodies set on short bases. Their surfaces are covered with irregular glazes in shades of creamy white, beige, olive green, and deep brown. The intermingling patches of color, with a metallic sheen in places, contrast with the speckled, lighter surface of the stoneware. The central opening and the smaller perforations arranged around it allow for the placement of single stems and the creation of small floral arrangements inspired by Japanese ikebana.
The third object retains a similar, organic silhouette, but its closed form has no functional openings. Inside is an embedded element that makes a sound when shaken. This gives the object an additional sensory dimension and sets it apart from the other pieces in the set. The light, sandy glaze has a subtly speckled surface and a softer character than the contrasting finishes of the vases.
The set exemplifies Scandinavian studio ceramics, in which a natural color palette, experiments with glaze, and simplified organic forms collectively contribute to the decorative character of the pieces. Each of the three pieces retains its own unique surface pattern, while their shared scale and rounded silhouettes create a cohesive composition.
