A large signed oil painting by George Michaud of four matador bullfighters titled 'Moment Before'. We love the dynamic composition of light and shadow, the somber mood, and the vibrant, energetic colors of hot pink, deep red, and turquoise. Signed in the lower right corner, 'Michaud'. Housed in its original deep black wooden frame, faced in a metallic silver paint.
Provenance: A card from W. & J. Sloan is attached to the back. It is dated October - November 1964 and provides a brief artist bio. At that time, W. & J. Sloan was an upscale furniture and home furnishings store in Beverly Hills, California, that hosted art exhibitions and solo art shows.
George Michaud (1929-1970) was a California American artist from Santa Fe of Spanish-French heritage. He studied at the Chouinard Art Institute and established a studio in Southern California.
