Antique Wooden Split-Back Photo Contact Printing Frame dating to the late 19th or early 20th century (circa 1880s–1920s).
This classic piece of early photographic darkroom equipment features a solid hardwood frame, a hinged split backboard, original red glass plate/insert, and two rotating flat metal leaf spring clamps secured with flathead screws. The split-back design allowed early photographers to unhook one side and check the exposure of the print in progress without shifting the negative.
Condition:
Overall Condition: Excellent antique condition with a rich, natural aged patina to the wood.
Functionality: Metal spring bars rotate smoothly and hold firm pressure against the backboard. Hinges are intact and function properly.
Glass: Glass insert is present and intact with no major cracks (shows minor vintage character/dust consistent with age).
Wear: Shows light age-appropriate surface wear, minor scuffs, and historical handling marks that enhance its character.
