This mid-century chest from Sweden, measuring 32 inches in width, features a rectangular original marble top with subtly projected and canted front corners. Beneath the marble, the chest is fitted with three graduated drawers flanked by canted stiles embellished with delicate vertical fluted carvings. Each drawer front is cleanly framed and largely unadorned, and retain their original brass ring-pull hardware and matching escutcheon at center. Additional brass rosette mounts accent the upper corners where the stiles meet the case. At the lower corners, the fluted stiles transition into tapered square legs. Decorative brass collars with geometric detailing adorn the upper portion of each leg, while brass toe caps finish the feet below. The wood has a custom painted finish in layered tones of soft greige, weathered stone, warm taupe, and pale driftwood beige. The original marble top is a gentle swirling of silver-gray, dove gray, pearl white, and charcoal veining. The surface is animated by dramatic cloud-like movement and organic marbling that gives the stone a lively yet elegant appearance. This vintage Swedish Gustavian style chest would function beautifully as a bedside chest, as an elegant accent piece in a foyer beneath a mirror, or as sophisticated storage in a living room, study, or powder room.
