This vintage chest from Sweden is topped with its original marble slab, with distinctive step-out corners, creating subtle projections at each corner that soften the rectilinear silhouette. The case below houses three full-sized drawers flanked within canted front stiles adorn with finely carved vertical fluting, a hallmark of Gustavian design inspired by classical Greek and Roman architecture. The fluted stiles are further accented by small gilt roundels positioned near the upper corners, introducing an elegant decorative highlight without disturbing the chest's understated character. The drawer fronts remain free of excessive ornamentation, and are fitted with circular brass ring pulls and matching brass escutcheons at center. The chest is raised on squared taper legs terminating into brass feet. The custom painted finish is a palette of warm greige, stone beige, aged ivory, and muted taupe. The original marble top displays dramatic natural veining in shades of sage green, soft gray, cream, and pale olive. This Swedish Gustavian style chest, measuring approximately 3 feet in width, has modest scale and elegant proportions making it highly versatile in a home. It would function beautifully as a bedside chest in a primary bedroom, where the stone top provides a durable surface for lamps and decorative objects. It would also work well in a foyer beneath a mirror, in a formal living room as an accent chest, or in a dining room for storing linens and serving pieces. See less
