Number 5 of 35, limited edition by Ilana Richardson, an internationally known painter and printmaker.
Titled "Daffodils & Legwarmers", created in 1982. It is a limited edition silkscreen/screenprint in colors. Her signature style is celebrated for its vibrant interplay of light, sharp shadows, and clean, sun-drenched color palettes.
Ilana Richardson is a celebrated international artist and printmaker renowned for her ability to capture the radiant, sun-drenched atmosphere of Mediterranean and tropical landscapes.
• Birth & Background: Born in Israel in 1945, her artistic vision was deeply shaped by the brilliant, intense sunlight and contrasting shadows of the Mediterranean.
• Education: She completed her formal art education at the acclaimed Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem before relocating to London for postgraduate art studies.
Career Milestones:
• Graphic Design Beginnings: After her studies, she initially worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in Israel. This professional foundation is evident in the structured compositions and clean, graphic forms found throughout her fine art.
• Fine Art Launch: She moved permanently to the UK in 1974 and launched her first major independent solo exhibition in 1981, which successfully established her name on the international art scene.
• Global Travel: To fuel her work, she travels extensively throughout Spain, Italy, Greece, Mexico, India, and Brazil, capturing the architectural charm and indigenous flora of each region.
Aesthetic & Mastered Mediums:
• The Play of Light: Her signature style focuses heavily on contrasting brilliant, whitewashed walls and stone terraces against the deep, sharp shadows cast by intense midday sun.
• Botanical Harmony: She seamlessly weaves colorful, lush bougainvillea, palm leaves, or potted flowers (and occasional still lifes like this Daffodils print) into serene, unpeopled spaces that evoke peace and stillness.
• Screenprinting Expertise: While she is an accomplished watercolor and oil painter, she is highly recognized for her limited-edition silkscreens. She uses a complex layering process with transparent inks to beautifully translate the fluid, luminous quality of her watercolor paintings onto paper.
Her works are widely sought after by international art collectors and are featured in numerous corporate and private collections worldwide. She currently lives and works out of her studio in Brighton, England.
