Generations of use have worn and softened the paint, revealing areas of natural pine beneath and creating the warm, layered patina that gives this bench much of its character.
Intricate carving embellishes the upper side rails and back and is echoed along the lower skirt with fluted carving, beaded accents, and additional decorative details. Turned feet support the bench, while four turned finials accent the upper corners. One finial has a nick/section of wood missing in the back.
This bench was originally designed with a lower section that could pull outward to serve as a spare bed. A newer upholstered seat, bolster, and pillows are included. There is approximately a two- to three-inch gap between the seat cushion and sides of the bench, which the bolster pillows fill nicely.
Restored, stable, and ready to use. A lovely example of Swedish country craftsmanship with an authentically distressed original painted finish. Seat Height: 23"
Old marks, scuffs, nicks, and cracking are visible throughout and are consistent with the age of the bench. Some of the more noticeable cracks run vertically through the carved areas. Old repairs are visible along the sides and rear feet, while age related separation between the planks can be seen along the back.
