This vintage ceramic vase is a richly textured piece of studio pottery, with an ovoid, softly tapered body rising from a narrow foot to a short, ringed neck and a flat, slightly flared rim. The surface is a layered landscape of earth-toned clay in terracotta, coppery russet, and smoky charcoal, with a blushing peach and cream burst at the center where the kiln atmosphere lightened the surface. Bands and ribbons of sage and celadon glaze sweep across the body in radiating, sunburst-like strokes, some glossy and crackled, others thick and pooled. Dark, glassy drips fall from the shoulder and neck and add a lively sense of movement. Small, raised cockle-shell impressions in a deep gunmetal tone are scattered across the belly like sculptural accents, and a few glazed-in dots punctuate the shoulder. Horizontal throwing rings are visible around the neck, confirming the potter’s hand. The glossy glaze plays against the matte, smoky clay for a vivid, earthy contrast, and the whole surface has the unpredictable depth of a hand-fired vessel.
Compact yet full of presence, this vase suits a bookshelf, mantel, console, coffee table, or windowsill, where it works alone or grouped with other ceramics. It complements Organic Modern, Rustic, Japandi, Coastal, and Eclectic interiors. The vase measures 4.25 inches in width, 4.25 inches in depth, and 6.25 inches in height. Condition is very good: the original glaze is vibrant with minor surface irregularities typical of handmade pottery, and there are no visible chips or cracks. For care, dust with a soft dry cloth and wipe gently with a barely damp cloth. Use it for dried stems, or add a liner before holding fresh flowers.
