This vintage stoneware vase is a small landscape in clay, with a full, globular body that swells from a narrow, flat foot to a wide shoulder and closes in a short, softly rolled collar. The upper third is washed in a soft matte cornflower blue that reads like open sky, while below it, layered bands of sage green, buttery ochre, dusty rose, and pale gray sweep across the belly in rolling, hill-like waves. The glaze is satin and slightly chalky, with a fine speckled grain where the iron-bearing clay shows through. A line of dark, bubbled pinholes runs near the lower body, where the glaze has pooled and broken in a lively, cratered edge that adds texture and a hand-worked touch. The lower body fades to a creamy, oatmeal-toned stoneware, and faint throwing lines trace the curve of the form. The color transitions feel spontaneous and painterly, with soft blending at the edges. The matte surface absorbs light rather than reflecting it, which gives the piece a calm, earthy depth and the unmistakable character of studio pottery.
Compact and sculptural, this vase suits a bookshelf, mantel, console, coffee table, or windowsill, and it works alone as an object or grouped with other ceramics. It complements Mid-Century Modern, Organic Modern, Southwestern, Japandi, and Eclectic interiors. The vase measures 5.75 inches in width, 5.75 inches in depth, and 5.25 inches in height. Condition is excellent: the glaze is vibrant and well preserved, with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. For care, dust with a soft dry cloth and wipe gently with a barely damp cloth. Its narrow neck suits dried stems or a single bloom, and a liner is advised before adding water. Inquire today to add this artisan piece to your collection.
