19th century Swedish Gustavian bench, crafted in pine with a beautifully aged antique white painted finish and faint gray undertones. … Read more 19th century Swedish Gustavian bench, crafted in pine with a beautifully aged antique white painted finish and faint gray undertones. The surface has been scraped and distressed over time, revealing much of the natural pine beneath and creating a soft, warm patina.
Egg and dart carving accents the base, while the raised arched back is decorated with two applied carved griffins. Additional carved details border the back and side rails, with simple fluted carving running vertically along the sides and lower feet.
The removable bench seat has been given a simple natural linen cover and lifts away to reveal interior storage. The bench was originally constructed as a type of spare bed, with a lower section designed to pull outward.
Small cracks, nicks, and additional distress are visible throughout and reflect generations of use without impacting function. Restored, stable, and ready to use.
