Antique 18th-century French engraving after François Boucher (1703–1770), presented in an ornate black and gilt frame.
The print is based on drawings by François Boucher, a French Rococo artist. The subjects are *chinoiserie*—European imaginative interpretations of Chinese themes, a popular trend in the 18th century.
• The publisher of print is Gabriel Huquier (1695–1772), based on Rue Saint-Jacques in Paris. The inscription "C.P.R." stands for *avec privilège du roi* ("with royal privilege"), a standard mark on French prints of that era.
• Technique: etching and engraving (intaglio printing from a metal plate).
Thema: a young woman riding an ox
• Inscriptions on the sheet: "F. Boucher, In." (after a drawing by Boucher) and "Huquier, Sculp. et Exc." (engraved and published by Huquier). Sheet number "6"; the letter "A" appears at the top.
• Verified via the Metropolitan Museum of Art: this is Plate 6, "Chinoiserie with a woman riding an ox," from the series *Premier Livre de Sujets et Pastorales*. The museum lists the plate dimensions as 26 × 20.5 cm and dates the series to 1720–1772.
• Handwritten notations in the margins by previous frame decorator: "15×17 cm", "Slate Vel + D340", "3" … slate blue velvet", "469/5". These are framer’s marks indicating the mat opening size, material (slate-blue velvet), and order number.
• Condition: brown water stains near the bull's head and in the margins; traces of glue and paper from an old backing. The sheet is mounted on old cardboard.
