This exceptional 19th-century Anglo-Indian jewelry box is a stunning example of Vizagapatam craftsmanship from the British colonial era. The casket features a rich, highly figured tortoiseshell veneer with a beautifully mottled pattern over a solid hardwood framework.
It is intricately ornamented with hand-carved bone overlays, visual fretwork trim, and a central incised bone medallion on the lid. The distinctive strapped design is characteristic of luxury export wares made for European collectors. A magnificent decorative accent piece or functional keepsake box for collectors of British campaign and colonial antiques.
