Measuring an impressive 14 inches in diameter, this substantial wooden bowl features a beautifully aged, darkened interior, a rounded hand-worked form, and a decorative rim embellished with individually applied brass-colored studs.
What makes this piece particularly special is the extensive wire stitching used to reinforce cracks in the wood. These fascinating repairs, traditionally known as “make-do” repairs, reflect the resourcefulness of an earlier era, when treasured household objects were carefully repaired rather than discarded.
Additional metal reinforcing plates along the rim contribute to its distinctive utilitarian appearance.
The exterior features a rich, dark, timeworn finish with beautiful surface variations, while the interior displays natural wood grain, age-related wear, and an appealing rustic patina.
Today, this wonderful example of primitive woodenware makes a striking decorative centerpiece, equally at home in a country farmhouse, rustic lodge, traditional interior, or Wabi-Sabi-inspired setting. See less
