A striking, large-scale piece of late 20th-century European art glass manufactured by Design Guild Romania. Standing an impressive 14 inches tall and weighing a substantial 8 lbs, this hand-blown amphora-form vessel masterfully replicates a classical Greco-Roman or Etruscan antiquity. The body features a rich, frosted matte cobalt and periwinkle blue Scavo (corroso) finish designed to mimic ancient glass unearthed from historical archaeological excavations. The lower half of the vase transitions into a beautiful, multicolored mottled confetti art glass trail with vibrant flecks embedded directly into the satin glass.
Ornamentation & Handles
The vessel is heavily stylized with dramatic, highly sculptural snake/serpentine handles cascading down the elongated neck to the shoulders of the piece. The front center of the vase features a coordinating circular rosette medallion applique. All metal ornamentation is finished with a dark, faux-patinated bronze coating, providing an authentic ancient-world aesthetic while ensuring structural stability around the thick-walled glass.
Condition & Provenance
This heavy statement piece is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs to either the frosted glass body or the securely attached metal overlay. The flat-polished base reveals a smooth, unground surface with natural wear swirls characteristic of premium hand-blown studio imports from the 1980s. A clean example of Design Guild’s highly collectible mid-to-late 20th-century historical revival series.
