Each crane is finely crafted with a removable, pierced gilt wing section that reveals a hollow interior designed to hold incense. The birds feature long, slender necks with detailed enamel plumage, resting on tall, ribbed gilt legs atop elaborate, reticulated gilt bases decorated with red and floral enamel accents. The bodies are richly decorated in the cloisonne technique with intricate wirework separating enamel cells on a turquoise ground, depicting scrolling floral motifs in shades of red, pink, yellow, and white. In traditional culture, cranes are symbols of longevity and peace. This pair makes a distinguished addition to a collection of cloisonne or Asian decorative arts.
