This vintage scorpion bowl lamp is a study in sculptural restraint, pairing hand-carved alabaster with a modern layered base. The rounded, globe-shaped vessel is carved with a continuous swirl of shallow flutes that spiral around the body, catching light and casting soft shadows across the surface. A gently flared rim crowns the bowl, while a rope-twist collar at the neck joins it to a bell-shaped pedestal with a matching twisted detail at its foot. The stone glows in creamy ivory and warm white, with faint veining and cloudy translucence that is characteristic of natural alabaster and gives the piece real depth when lit. Beneath the pedestal sits a thick, clear Lucite disc that appears to float the stone above a polished black-and-white marble plinth, whose dramatic breccia-style veining adds graphic contrast. The mix of carved stone, acrylic, and marble creates a distinctive interplay of weight and transparency. The surface shows a soft, aged patina with minor scuffs, and a small repair is visible at the back.
Standing 11 inches tall, this lamp suits a console, bookshelf, bedside table, mantel, or entry table, where its glow can warm a corner. It complements Hollywood Regency, Neoclassical, Modern Traditional, Art Deco, and Organic Modern interiors. The piece measures 6 inches in width, 6 inches in depth, and 11 inches in height. Condition is very good, with a smooth original finish, minor surface scuffs, and an intact, clear Lucite base. For care, dust with a soft dry cloth, wipe gently with a barely damp cloth if needed, and avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners, which can etch alabaster. Keep it out of damp areas and direct sun.
