Pair of Danish lounge chairs in grey-blue velvet, in the manner of Fritz Hansen, circa 1940. Designer and maker are unrecorded. The proportions and detailing are typical of Danish upholstered armchairs of the period.
The backs are channel-tufted, with buttoned points drawing the upper edge into soft scallops that curve down into scrolled arms. Twisted cord trim outlines the arms and continues along the seat front and lower rail. Each chair rests on turned bun feet in stained wood, partly hidden behind a deep bullion fringe.
The seats are fixed and tightly upholstered, and the profile is low and generous. The chairs sit between late Art Deco upholstery and early Scandinavian Modern. They fit naturally into Art Deco, vintage, Scandinavian Modern, Mid-Century Modern and eclectic interiors, whether placed side by side or across a fireplace or a reading corner. Well matched and comfortably proportioned. This piece is designed in the style of the selected designer and/or manufacturer
