The interior carries a densely layered, stylized composition in cobalt, teal, ochre, terracotta, olive and oxblood over a soft white ground, ringed by a spiral-and-dot border at the rim. The exterior is a matte, muted grey-green banded with a repeating arch motif. This pairing of a matte mineral ground with saturated decor is the factory's signature register.

the arnhemsche fayencefabriek was founded in 1907 by klaas and jacob vet, a modeller trained at de distel in amsterdam and a painter from brantjes in purmerend, and operated until 1934. A boutique concern beside the large gouda houses, it was known for thinner, more delicate earthenware and a more refined painting hand. From around 1915 it pursued richly coloured decors inspired by persian ornament, to which isolde belongs. Its output was far smaller than that of its gouda contemporaries, and surviving pieces turn up considerably less often.

painted marks to the underside: model number, decor name isolde, arnhem holland, with painter's monogram and size code. The foot ring retains its original pair of hanging holes, so the piece hangs as a wall plate or serves as a deep bowl on the table.
