a rare and elegant vintage thonet model 133 bentwood valet stand, also known as a “stummer diener”, dating from circa 1920–1930s and manufactured in austria by gebrüder thonet.

this beautifully proportioned piece is an excellent example of thonet’s characteristic bentwood craftsmanship. The stand features a gracefully curved upper structure with a long horizontal clothes rail, supported by organically curved uprights. A series of horizontal rails at the lower section provides practical storage for shoes or other personal belongings.

the entire piece is constructed from solid beechwood and steam-bent beechwood, finished in a warm honey-brown tone. The elegant curves, slender construction and restrained functional design are characteristic of the viennese bentwood tradition associated with thonet.

the model is identified as model no. 133, a thonet valet stand (“stummer diener”). Museum-quality auction records confirm virtually identical examples with the same distinctive construction and dimensions.
