Here is a charming mid-century Mexican mixed-metal divided dish by Los Castillo of Taxco, dating to the 1950s–1960s. The whimsical bird-shaped design features a gracefully curved copper neck, a contrasting brass-tone beak, and a decorative green malachite stone eye.
Three fan-shaped compartments form the bird's wings and tail, each with a silver-plated metal interior framed by warm copper. The combination of contrasting metals, sculptural curves, and playful form is characteristic of Mexican modernist metalwork of the period.
Marked on the underside “Los Castillo, Taxco, Handmade, Mexico, 42.” A wonderful example of mid-century Mexican decorative arts, equally appealing as a small serving dish, catchall, or sculptural tabletop accent.
