Frederick Cooper Kashmiri polychrome lacquer floor lamp, dating to the 1970s. This unusually tall decorative lamp has a columnar body richly ornamented with dense, hand-painted floral decoration derived from the traditional lacquered papier-mâché wares of Kashmir, India.

The surface displays an all-over arrangement of stylized lotus blossoms, tulips, carnations, and smaller flowering plants connected by scrolling stems and finely painted foliage. This profuse type of ornament is often described as a hazara, or “thousand-flower,” pattern. The decoration reflects the synthesis of Persian, Mughal, and Kashmiri artistic traditions, in which individually rendered flowers are arranged as a continuous garden against a contrasting ground.

The elongated form and detailed polychrome surface give the lamp a strong architectural presence while retaining the richly decorative character associated with Frederick Cooper lighting of the period. Suitable for use beside a sofa, console, or reading chair.

Professionally rewired and ready for use. The shade shown measures approximately 16 inches in diameter × 13 inches high and is for display purposes only; shade is not included.

Dimensions: 60 inches high × 13 inches diameter.

Condition: Good vintage condition with minor age-appropriate surface wear and variations to the lacquered decoration. See less
