The density of … Read more A 19th-century English pine chest recently updated with new paint of ebonized effect and pasted decoupage fish. The density of these illustrations glows with a gilded luster against the satin black paint that covers the chest. The top consists of a single plank of wood, which sits above five drawers that open smoothly with turned wood knobs. The fish are different shapes and sizes, moving in different directions, which makes the chest come alive. The piece rests on four sturdy spun wood feet. This is a unique and whimsical piece that would be at home in a variety of spaces and decorating styles. Cleaned and tightened, we believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
