The robe bears a diamond-shaped CPO stamp, associated with the Central Purchasing Office military retail system in Occupied Japan, indicating it was sold through U.S./Allied military purchasing channels during the postwar occupation period.

This piece came from the home of a Korean War veteran. While there is no documentation confirming that he was the original purchaser, the veteran-household provenance together with the CPO stamp is consistent with a U.S. servicemember souvenir acquired in Japan during the late 1940s to early 1950s.
