A mid 20th Century Chinoiserie decorated room divider screen with six panels. The black lacquer finish is decorated in front with a lavish, richly detailed river scene in relief, with figures going to and from market over a bridge and on boats, set amongst pagodas, market stalls and trees. Below the scene on each panel is a still life with a different vase and flowers, all framed with a thick border of an intricately painted lattice. The reverse is simply decorated with gilt birds, butterflies and bamboo. Panels are connected with brass hinges and stand on brass wrapped bracket feet. Each panel measures 16" wide.
