The three broad drawers are decorated with a painted diamond lattice punctuated by delicate fleur-de-lis motifs, while the original brass hardware and ornamental escutcheons lend the piece an appropriately old-world character.

The scale is especially versatile: substantial enough to anchor an entry hall or living room, yet shallow enough at 18 inches deep to work beautifully beneath artwork or a mirror. It would also make an unusually sophisticated bedroom chest or dining-room commode, particularly in an interior layered with gilt frames, blue-and-white porcelain, antique textiles, and traditional upholstery.

The visible surface wear and mellowed finish suit the piece rather well, giving it the appearance of something collected over time rather than newly decorative.
