A beautifully crafted vintage Indian work or storage box dating to approximately the 1970s. The substantial rectangular box is constructed of what appears to be natural unstained rosewood and is extensively decorated with intricate geometric inlay in contrasting bone and ebony.
The detailed inlaid decoration gives the box a strong architectural quality, while the warm natural wood provides a handsome contrast to the lighter bone and dark ebony. Raised on small feet, the box offers generous interior storage and would work beautifully as a traditional work box, decorative storage box or an elegant place for remote controls and other small objects.
The box was not designed with a lock and does not require a key.
