The richly ornamented lid is worked with scrolling foliate motifs, flowers and symmetrical arabesques, centered by a brass cartouche.

The front is accented with a coordinating decorative escutcheon surrounded by intricate brass and red marquetry. Opening the hinged lid reveals two fitted wooden tea compartments, each with its original fitted lid and small knob. The interior retains a rich dark wood finish and brass hardware.

A particularly decorative example of French Boulle style work, combining the dramatic contrast of black, red and gilt brass with the elaborate ornament associated with 19th century French decorative arts. See less
