An exquisite turn-of-the-century sterling silver serving spoon in the highly coveted "Carnation" pattern by the Watson Company (Attleboro, Massachusetts), circa … Read more An exquisite turn-of-the-century sterling silver serving spoon in the highly coveted "Carnation" pattern by the Watson Company (Attleboro, Massachusetts), circa 1903–1909. This pattern belongs to Watson's celebrated multi-motif "Floral Series" (commonly collected as a "Flower of the Month" set). A masterclass in classic Art Nouveau design, this impressive 7-inch piece features remarkably crisp, high-relief chasing of blooming carnation flowers. The organic, fluid lines cascade beautifully down the handle tip and intricately drape over the shoulder into a wide, scalloped, shell-shaped bowl. The center of the handle features a very elegant, lightly engraved vintage script monogram “S” that lends a beautiful layer of history to the piece.
The reverse of the handle is clearly stamped with the official Watson Company heraldic crest maker’s mark and "STERLING". An exceptional addition to an antique silver collection or a stunning functional serving accent for berries, sugar, or preserves. I love the carnation relief floral design.
