A magnificant late Georgian-era (circa 1790-1830) needlework picture depicting a beautifully detailed exotic bird or parrot. This is a true textile masterpiece completely hand-stitched with fine silk threads onto a silk ground. This is not a print or a theorem painting. Remarkable craftsmanship, utilizing tight, directional stitches to create a lifelike, layered texture across the bird's feathers, the twisting gnarled branches and delicate clusers of berries. The central silk piece measures 8.5" x 10.5". The artwork is beautifully preserved under its original oval verre eglomise mat - a delicate techinique featuring reverse-painted black glass with hand-gilded gold borders and elegant starburst motif at each corner. It is housed in its original ornate Georgian giltwood frame featuring a beaded inner border and elegant leaf relief carvings on the outer trim.
