Representative pair of Renaissance-style chairs made of solid oak, made in the second half of the 19th century. They come from Western Europe, where they served as part of a festive or ceremonial interior. These chairs stand out for their exceptionally rich and plastic carving, which testifies to the high level of the then carpentry craft. The dominant element of each chair is a high backrest topped with a carved coat of arms. The coat of arms shield is divided into four fields with various symbols - stylized heraldic flowers, a tree, an animal figure and a rhythmic geometric field. The shield is surrounded by two figures of mermaids with flowing hair, holding fruits and plant shoots, which gives the composition a mythological and allegorical character. Above the shield is a carved cartouche with mother-of-pearl, with volute elements on the sides. This composition gives the chairs a monumental expression and is reminiscent of the emblem shields of city halls or castle halls. On the sides of the backrests and on the legs there are twisted, spiral-shaped columns - a decorative element that gives the chairs rhythm and grace. The expressive carving is complemented by motifs of flowers, scrolls and a stylized mascaron in the lower part of the backrest. The seats are upholstered in historic fabric on classic springs, which ensures comfortable seating. These are authentic collector's pieces that are suitable for placement in a castle interior, gallery, representative room or stylish study.
