Late 19th-century Renaissance Revival side chair executed in ebonized hardwood with extensive foliate carving and architectural detailing. The rectangular back is framed by turned and fluted columns with carved capitals surrounding a red and cream striped velvet upholstered panel. Repeating carved leaf motifs border the back and seat rails, while deeply turned spiral legs incorporate carved collars and floral corner blocks. Drawing from 17th-century European furniture forms, the chair reflects the elaborate historicist design favored during the late Victorian period.
