This desk features a stunning black leather writing surface with a hand tooled gold leaf border.. The desk is of beautifully figured crotch mahogany which is complemented by heavily modeled cast antiqued brass drawer pulls and a gothic style brass gallery on the top of the desk. The desk is meant to float in the room so as to be admired from all sides; the front features an open bookcase with adjustable shelves and is surmounted by three generous drawers. The opposite side has two concealed cupboard doors that open to reveal additional storage space with an adjustable shelf. In addition to that and just below the writing surface there are two generous shallow drawers for document and writing instrument storage. Additionally, the sides of the desk and the cupboard door fronts feature an interesting geometric black string inlay design. For those with lower back issues who prefer to stand to work, this desk would serve as an ideal -- and remarkably handsome -- "stand-up desk." Notwithstanding its utility, however, this desk is guaranteed to be an unusual and beautiful focal point of any room. The desk measures: 53.5" Wide x 34.25" Deep x 38.75" High.
This desk was purchased new from Baker Furniture as part of their Stately Homes Collection by our company in 1970 and was used as a display piece in our high-end interior design furniture showroom. It was never sold and has never been used. Any small imperfections to the surfaces of the desk are consistent with age and its use as display piece in a furniture showroom. See less
