The glaze, a mottled turquoise, gives depth to the surface, while raised white slip decoration moves across it in looping, continuous lines. These undulating forms feel almost drawn in air, wrapping the vessel in a rhythmic pattern that shifts as light passes over it. Between them, relief motifs emerge—faces and abstract figures—embedded within the field rather than applied to it.

Gustave Asch was one of those French ceramicists whose work feels inseparable from the landscape that shaped it.
