Inspired by a 19th-century German neoclassical design, the piece features rich cherry-finished shelves and a stepped architectural top accented by carved gilt egg-and-dart molding. Four elegant black lacquered curved supports are embellished with sculptural cast brass ram’s heads and terminate in brass hoof-form mounts at the base.
Three graduated fixed shelves provide display space for books, sculpture, ceramics, or decorative objects, while the dramatic contrast of warm wood, black lacquer, and gilt brass gives the piece a strong Empire and Neoclassical presence.
Retains the original John Widdicomb maker’s plaque and production markings.
