This exceptionally unique tribal vessel is crafted in the tradition of the large-scale ceremonial feast bowls (kelemui) likely originating from Lou Island in the Admiralty Islands archipelago of Papua New Guinea.
Striking and highly sculptural, the round wooden basin features a hand-painted geometric zig-zag border tracing the outer rim. It is dramatically flanked by two prominent, intricately carved openwork handles depicting stylized, serrated spiral fretwork.
The entire structure rests securely atop an elevated, hand-carved four-legged squared wooden base. Finished with a warm, earthy ochre and dark pigment patina, this piece serves as a powerful standalone artifact or a commanding focal point for curated global, eclectic, or rustic interiors.

This is the case with this incredible and beautiful tribal bowl. The spirals on the side are very vulnerable and 3 out of 4 of them have been damaged. Some repairs have been made, and they are together, but you should look closely at the pictures before purchasing. This piece is still very much worth the effort, despite the broken nature. Price has been seriously adjusted to compensate for the damage. less
