Rose taupe velvet with a rich, plush texture covers each long seat, framed by a fine decorative gimp. Molded seat rails meet square corner blocks with recessed panels, and turned and tapered legs rise to carved gilt leaf collars, finishing in slender collared toes above small ball feet. The two benches are an identical pair.
The benches carry forward the 19th century revival of all French styles, which celebrated the refined legacy of French furniture making. Louis XVI neoclassicism remained a favorite of that tradition, prized for its straight lines, balanced proportions and delicate ornament. Painted frames touched with gilding were among its most graceful expressions, bringing light and elegance to the French interior.
At the foot of twin beds in a guest bedroom, the pair adds symmetry and quiet order. Beneath a window or along a gallery wall, the benches offer generous seating and work beautifully as a matched arrangement.
