Beautiful French needlepoint tapestry dating from the second half of the 20th century, finely worked by hand in wool and silk. The tapestry depicts a charming romantic woodland landscape, with majestic trees, lush flowering vegetation, a tranquil stream and several colourful birds. Small figures appear within the landscape, adding a pastoral and picturesque quality to the composition. The design is executed in fine needlepoint, with closely worked stitches creating a richly textured, almost painterly surface. The tapestry features a sophisticated palette of blue-greys, sage greens, cream, brown, burgundy and muted gold, framed by a decorative multi-band border. The reverse reveals the detailed needlework and the quality of the woven canvas and threads.
