This superb pair of antique mirrored prints depicts Ruth and Rahel (Rachel), after the British artist Henry Ryland (1856-1924). Embodying fidelity in the fields (Ruth) and patience and beauty by the well (Rachel), they exude a great deal of gentleness and poetry. Published by the prestigious Berlin-based "Photographische Gesellschaft," these works display a neoclassical aesthetic. What a stroke of luck to have acquired the original pair, which has remained together through the ages!
The prints are antique, dating from 1903. The artist Henry Ryland's signature is present in the plate. The Berlin-based publisher, Photographische Gesellschaft, marked the works with a blind seal. They are in good overall condition for their age. The paper has a lovely patina and some foxing. The frames are original and show some signs of wear.
