Traditionally displayed in pairs, these protective figures are depicted in dynamic seated poses. The male lion (on the right) rests his paw on an embroidered brocade ball (xiuqiu), symbolizing dominion over the world, while the female lion (on the left) playfully tends to a cub, representing the nurturing of future generations. Both lions feature intricately detailed curly manes, bulging eyes, open jaws, and muscular bodies. They wear decorative collars with bells and tassels. The bronze is finished with a rich, dark patina and features extensive "tuo jin" (gold leaf application) highlights, giving them a warm, aged appearance. A highly auspicious and classic pair for a collector of Asian antiques.
