Offering an exceptional antique American Mission/Arts and Crafts chandelier dating to about 1910, and featuring a substantial all-brass architectural frame with four tapered slag-glass shades.
This chandelier exemplifies the early 20th-century preference for strong architectural, geometric forms and restrained ornament, putting it in historical perspective.
The variegated slag glass produces a warm amber/golden glow when lit, and interesting abstract design patterns when not lit. Excellent interplay with the aged brass; rich, period patina!
Close examination of the various elements reveal the expert design and craftsmanship.
This fixture is original with the exception that one age-appropriate socket has been employed to replace one of the original Bryant sockets. All four sockets have their original mica insulators, indicating the earliest American lighting components!
The chandelier has been rewired from the ceiling to the cluster in the main body. The other wiring, which has been tested, is original and in fine working condition. Insofar as the sockets are over 100 years old, it would behoove the new owner to operate the chandelier from a wall switch rather than the individual sockets. This chandelier is very easily installed, as the canopy can be moved up and down with the turn of one screw.
Dimensions: the fixture measures about 23 1/2 inches across and hangs about 21-23 deep, depending on where the canopy is stationed.
