This large brass tray was produced for Castilian Imports, an American importer known for decorative metalware and furnishings sourced from India during the latter 20th century. This unusually elaborate example is crafted with a finely engraved center, pierced gallery, applied rope borders and neoclassical swag and tassel motif.
Large sculptural handles at each end are embellished with shell-like detailing, while the beautifully engraved tray surface incorporates scrolling foliate ornament, delicate stippling and a central medallion design. The combination of engraving, pierced metalwork and applied dimensional decoration gives this piece considerably more presence than a typical brass serving tray.
A striking piece for a bar, coffee table or ottoman, and substantial enough to use as a decorative centerpiece styled with books, decanters or objets.
Shown with our brass tea service, not included but also listed in this shop.
