An elegant English Revival oak bookcase or display cabinet dating to approximately 1900–1920. Featuring an unusually narrow 11-inch depth. Its slim profile makes it exceptionally practical for tight spaces, hallways offices, or libraries where a standard full-depth bookcase would be too cumbersome.
The piece is constructed with solid oak and retains a beautiful, warm original finish with an attractive age-related patina. The double doors house intact, geometric leaded-glass windows and secure via an original, highly distinctive stamped-brass escutcheon plate featuring a twisted rope-style geometric diamond pendant pull.
Key Features & Design Attributes:
• Design & Silhouette: Elevated on graceful, sturdy cabriole legs ending in traditional pad feet, giving this cabinet a lighter, more sophisticated character compared to blockier furniture of the era.
• Storage Flexibility: Houses two adjustable oak shelves and one fixed lower shelf, making it ideal for books, or object display.
• Craftsmanship Marks: Features historic, hand-chiseled craftsman "marriage marks" (Roman numeral VIII) above the hinges, proving its authentic early-20th-century bench-made origin.
Condition:
Good antique condition with appropriate minor surface wear consistent with age. Glass and lead are completely intact. The original key is missing, but the locking mechanism remains present and replacement skeleton keys are widely available.
