The torso retains remnants of its original fabric covering, stitched adjustment panels, and canvas reinforcing strips secured with metal tacks. A turned wooden neck finial sits above an iron collar, while the lower section incorporates an expandable lattice framework and articulated sizing mechanism designed to accommodate varying garment dimensions. Dress forms of this type were essential tools in professional tailoring and dressmaking shops, allowing garments to be fitted, altered, and displayed without the presence of a live model. The surviving adjustable cage construction illustrates the mechanical ingenuity employed before fully standardized commercial mannequins became commonplace. See less

The papier-mâché torso shows heavy losses, cracking, separation, and missing sections exposing the internal framework. Original fabric covering is heavily frayed with numerous tears, holes, losses, and detached sections throughout. Iron adjustment framework exhibits moderate to heavy surface oxidation while retaining its overall form. Cast iron rolling base remains intact with all casters present. The wooden neck finial displays expected wear consistent with age. Overall condition reflects a well-used professional studio form with substantial material loss while retaining significant display appeal. less
