The alabaster shows warm, honey-toned veining and subtle color variation, and the translucence of the stone gives the figure a soft glow, with depth and movement as light plays across its surface. It measures 6 inches high, 3.5 inches wide, and 2.5 inches deep.

The hand carving is evident in the flowing, organic lines and subtle irregularities that machine carving would not produce, and every curve reflects the individual touch of the carver and a deep understanding of Buddhist iconography.

Discovered at an estate auction on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, this alabaster Buddha came from a collection of Buddhist sculptures.

The sculpture is lovingly used and bears the honest patina of age, with a few dings and nicks as is often found in old carved stone. The head shows an old repair, and it is not a recent one.

This Buddha will be at home in an intimate meditation space, and will appeal to collectors of antique religious art, admirers of the natural beauty of alabaster, students of Buddhist philosophy, and anyone seeking a meaningful spiritual accent piece. It is a quietly weathered testament to artistic skill and spiritual devotion, for those who understand that true beauty often lies in the patina of time.
