A colored antique engraving of the celebrated late medieval tapestry in St. Mary's Hall, Coventry, England. Six panels of kings, queens, saints and courtiers are rendered in rich greens, golds and rose, with the title inscribed beneath. A label on the reverse notes that it is one of a very limited number printed in 1869 for Poole's History and Antiquities of Coventry. Framed and glazed in a dark wood frame with a gilt slip.
Sourced from a private English collection.
I chose it for its long, low proportions and its history. It is a natural fit over a console, a bed or a doorway, and the tapestry colors sit happily beside old textiles, oak and brass.
