The tapestry depicts an elegant pastoral landscape, with two graceful swans on a tranquil pond, surrounded by mature trees, luxuriant vegetation, distant architecture and a softly rendered classical landscape. The composition is framed by an elaborate floral and foliate border in harmonious shades of blue, ivory, beige, ochre and muted green. The subtle variation of the natural fibers gives the surface a beautiful richness and depth, while the finely worked details demonstrate the considerable skill of the weavers. The palette has an intentionally antique, softly patinated appearance, reminiscent of 18th- and 19th-century European landscape tapestries.
