This distinctive mid-century design combines an exceptionally light tubular aluminium frame with beautifully shaped plywood seat and backrest shells. The elegant construction is both highly functional and visually refined, reflecting the innovative approach to furniture design of the early 1950s.

The set comprises three chairs in two different finishes: two natural wood examples and one black-painted example. The contrasting finishes give the set a particularly attractive and graphic character, while the uniform design creates a coherent ensemble.

The Aluflex chair was conceived as a highly practical, space-saving chair. By lifting the seat, the chairs can be nested closely together for compact storage. Despite their remarkably light construction, the chairs are perfectly suited to everyday use and work beautifully as dining chairs, occasional chairs or additional seating.

Armin Wirth’s Aluflex is regarded as an important example of early Swiss modernist furniture design. The design received the “Die Gute Form” award in 1953, recognising its combination of functionality, economy of materials and elegant construction.

This set is particularly appealing because of the combination of natural and black plywood, giving the three chairs a distinctive contemporary appearance while retaining their authentic 1950s character.
