The intricate geometric patterns were often hand-carved by skilled craftsmen, reflecting the mathematical precision and aesthetic values. Many complicated joints were used to put the pieces together. In the incredible 16-bedroom Yin Yu Tang house, built during the Qing Dynasty in China's southeastern Huizhou region and reconstructed in Salem, MA, every architectural artifact was moved piece by piece was put back together in the museum. The last photo shows how lattice panels were used in the house.

This wood lattice panel is made in the traditional method but made easier by modern machinery. The pieces of fretwork are put together by the same wood joints as the window panels of centuries before. See less
