They are made of a light-colored hardwood, most likely birch, which is then ebonized and finished with a deep, hand-polished black lacquer that beautifully accentuates their architectural lines. The entire structure is adorned with finely cast and chased gilt bronze fittings. The upper edge is framed by an elegant openwork gallery in the pure Louis XVI style, while immediately below runs a beautifully detailed frieze decorated with swags and hanging pendants.
